The playground of Montfort School was filled with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere on 12th August 2016 as the school celebrated its Annual Sports Meet. The fantastic turnout from the parents and the pleasant weather were the perfect boost for the students on the day at the Montfort School. The whole playground had been decorated with flags, buntings and balloons a day earlier.
The Chief Guests for the occasion was Thiru P.S.C. Kalyan IPS, Deputy Commissioner of police, St. Thomas Mount. The glittering opening ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Special Guest, Wing Commander P.X.R.Gilbert- Chief Engineering Officer, Air Force Station, Mohanbari, Assam, escorted by the smartly attired Commandos. The sports day began with a welcome speech. The chief guest was given the guard of honour by the school pupil leader and the leaders of various houses, followed by the March past by class IXand XI students. The chief guest took the salute of the impressive March Past of the Montfort School students .He then administered the oath to the athletes, thereafter hoisting the flag and declaring the Meet open, amidst thunderous applause. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being administered. He also distributed prizes to the winners of various sports events conducted earlier.
A peppy Hoops drill and an energizing exercise drill set the tone for the rest of the event. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. There were track events with sprints and relay races too.
Students of classes 1 and 2 competed team -wise in their class events. The students displayed a wide array of colourful and reverberant events such as yoga and Parachute drill showcasing the skills and exercises practiced by our young sports enthusiasts.
The chief Guest praised the performance of the students and appreciated the hard work of the entire staff. The Overall Championship was taken by the Green Team –St. Maria Goretti and the First Runner Up were the Yellow Team-St. Gonzalo.
It was a fun filled exciting day at Montfort with all the young athletes doing their best to bring up The honour of their teams.
The 7th Unified Sports Meet was conducted at Montfort Higher Secondary School, St. Thomas Mount. Four institutions participated in the event- Montfort School, Montfort Community of Disabled Society MCDS, Deepam Special School and Banyan.
The Sports Meet was conducted under the guidance and support our Principal Rev. Bro. K.K.Thomas, MCDS Director Rev. Bro .Joseph Louis and the co-ordinator Mr. Nagarajan – Senior Manager of Special Olympics -South Asian Pacific.
The Chief Guest Mr.Sukesh Menon, an ex-Montfortian, Yeracud and his wife Mrs.Meera Menon graced the occasion and appreciated the initiative in making the special children happy.
