16th Annual Sports Meet

The playground of Montfort School was filled with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere on 11th August 2017 as the school celebrated its Annual Sports Meet. The fantastic turnout from the parents and the pleasant weather were the perfect boost for the students on the day at the Montfort School. The whole playground had been decorated with flags, buntings and balloons a day earlier.

Mr. M S Muthusamy, IPS Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chennai South was the Chief Guest, but due to Independence Day protocol he was unable to preside and Mr. Mohan Dass, Asst Commissioner of Police came in place of him. Mr Nigel Lazar, Former Indian Snooker and Badminton Player was the Guest of Honour.

A peppy Hoops drill and an energizing exercise drill set the tone for the rest of the event. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. There were track events with sprints and relay races too.

The glittering opening ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Guests. The sports day began with a welcome speech. The chief guest was given the guard of honour by the school pupil leader and the leaders of various houses, followed by the grand March past in precision with the school band.The chief guest took the salute of the impressive March Past of the Montfort School students .He then administered the oath to the athletes, thereafter hoisting the flag and declaring the Meet open, amidst thunderous applause. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being administered. He also distributed prizes to the winners of various sports events conducted .

Students of classes 1 ,2 and 3 competed team -wise in their class events. The students displayed a wide array of colourful and reverberant events showcasing the skills and exercises practiced by our young sports enthusiasts.

The chief Guest praised the performance of the students and appreciated the hard work of the entire staff. The Green Team, St. Maria Goretti House won the Winner’s Trophy for March Past and the Overall Championship was bagged by the Red Team the Blessed Trichet House. The sports meet was a grand success, enabling the athletes to bring out their talents.



Special Olympic Unified Sports

The 7th Unified Sports Meet was conducted at Montfort Higher Secondary School, St. Thomas Mount. Four institutions participated in the event- Montfort School, Montfort Community of Disabled Society MCDS, Deepam Special School and Banyan.

The Sports Meet was conducted under the guidance and support our Principal Rev. Bro. K.K.Thomas, MCDS Director Rev. Bro .Joseph Louis and the co-ordinator Mr. Nagarajan – Senior Manager of Special Olympics -South Asian Pacific.

The Chief Guest Mr.Sukesh Menon, an ex-Montfortian, Yeracud and his wife Mrs.Meera Menon graced the occasion and appreciated the initiative in making the special children happy.
