Montfort Matriculation School, St. Thomas Mount, Chennai – 600 016, was started on 10th June 2002, by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel belonging to the Province of Yercaud. Ever since its inception the school has constantly grown both in size and number. From a mere 800 students in 2003 the strength has now increased to 3165 currently.

1st Wing & New Block:
In the academic year 2003- 2004 the first wing of the school building was built having classrooms for 2 sections from LKG to Std VIII and a Computer Lab. By the year 2005 – 2006 a new block encompassing additional classrooms for 3 sections from LKG to Std X, science laboratories, audio visual room was constructed. In the academic year 2009 - 2010 the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary comprising of 2 groups.
Infrastructural Makeover & Expansions:
In the academic year 2014 – 2015 the number of sections from LKG to Std X was increased to 4, and Commerce & Pure Science groups were introduced in the Higher Secondary.
Considering the fast growth of the school and the need to have more classrooms and a self sufficient auditorium cum indoor stadium, the school building was extended to one more wing which was inaugurated on 19 th Feb 2016.
In the academic year 2017 -2 018 the school mud playground was converted into a Natural turf in order to provide clean, green environment for students to play during their Physical Education classes and during other After School Activities.
In 2020 - 2021 the school was partially functioning due to the pandemic and during that time the school mud athletic track was renovated into a International Standard 200 mts Synthetic Athletic Track which is first among all the Montfort Schools in India.
A 62KVA Solar Power has been installed to supply uninterrupted power to all lights and fans of the classrooms, laboratories and auditorium during working hours.
This academic year 2022 - 2023 marking the 60 years of Montfortian presence through the selfless services rendered by the Montfort Brothers of St Gabriel at St Thomas Mount, the school is blessed with an elegant & monumental Diamond Jubilee Arch the at the main entrance which is a class apart, giving pride, joy and a sense of belonging to every person entering the campus.
Holistic Education:
At Montfort we focus on imparting Holistic education to students providing the best educational facilities, which help in developing all their faculties. In the modern age of new technologies, information and technology has become an indispensable component in education, the school has 60 digital classrooms, more than 80 computer systems, KG Activity Classroom, Science Activity Lab Kits and Mathematics Activity Lab kits in order to enhance activity based learning as we believe in self-motivated learning process through trouble-free and faster understanding.
The school provides both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in a well-structured environment, such as Yoga, Robotics, Astronomy club, Music Classes etc. Every child is provided with opportunities to identify and to cultivate his or her aptitudes. Dance, Histrionics, Singing, Public Speaking are also given importance. The students also undertake project work and have represented the school in various District and State Level Science Exhibitions and Competitions and won several awards.
Life skill training programmes, career counseling and guidance, personality development and inter personal skill developments are part of the curriculum and experts in the field are invited periodically to address and guide the students.
Montfort St Thomas Mount has been blessed with the presence of eminent personalities such as Late Dr. APJ Abdul kalam, Late Dr. Seshan, Dr. K Rosiah Former Governor of TN, Dr. Sylendra Babu, Mr. Kaliyamurthy, Mr. Anabrasan and many more on various school celebrations and have greatly appreciated the fast growth of the school and the dedication of the Principal & Staff in imparting Holistic education and the talented & efficient students.
Inclusion At Montfort:
Montfort Mat Hr Sec School supports Inclusive Education, currently we have more than 200 students with various special needs who are autistic, mentally retarded, learning disabled, spastic, physically challenged, visually challenged, hearing impaired etc, spread across grades from LKG to Std XII. Students at Montfort are made aware of their social responsibilities towards the less fortunate counterparts of the society by providing them opportunities to interact and learn in the mainstream environment.
Montfort School is an Inclusive School accommodating children with special needs and integrating them in regular classes and supporting their therapeutically needs simultaneously. The School also Conducts Unified Sports Meet every year and conducts games & sports events for children with special needs partnering with other regular children.
We at Montfort take pride in saying that we have been working on the principles of the unified champion school program providing an inclusive education, unified sports and unified leadership opportunities for our students studying under inclusion by default. On February 5th 2021, Special Olympics Bharat awarded Montfort School, St Thomas Mount the status of Unified Champion School endorsing and acknowledging the practice of Inclusion in the true unified spirit and inspiring the community.
