"If you never try, you will never know."
Montfort Matric. Hr. Sec. School, St. Thomas Mount hosted a Life Skill Mela on 6th
February 2025. The Mela was inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. by our Vice Principal Rev. Bro. A.
Pakiyanathan and the Principal of Montfort ITI, Rev. Bro. Deepan.
The event featured activities such as Cooking, Stitching, and Mehandi Designing.
Students from Classes VI to VIII enthusiastically participated in all the events and
showcased their creative talents.
The aim of the Life Skill Mela was to equip students with adaptive and
positive behaviours, enabling them to deal effectively with the demands and challenges
of everyday life. The activities provided a platform for students to explore their
interests and display their innovative ideas while developing creativity, teamwork, and
self-confidence Cooking: Students prepared a variety of items including snacks, juices, lunch
dishes,
and evening refreshments. Tailoring: Students stitched handkerchiefs, sling bags, hair clips, and
bands.
Mehandi: Students beautifully decorated their friends’ hands with intricate and
artistic
Mehandi designs. Students from different classes visited the Mela and enjoyed the vibrant and engaging
atmosphere throughout the day. The Life Skill Mela turned out to be a grand success, leaving
students with valuable learning experiences and joyful memories.
LIFE SKILL MELA

"The Life skill Mela " was Organised on 26 th of February 2025 in our
school campus from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm,by the students of std VI to VIII.
The Mela was inaugurated by our Principal and Correspondent Rev. Bro.
Stephen Xavier, Vice Principal Rev. Bro. Packiyanathan and ITI Principal Rev. Bro.
Deepan.The Mela was specialised in Cooking, Mehandi designs and Embroidery designs.
The students were very much interested to exhibit their cooking skills
that they learnt, They prepared Morning snacks, Juices, Lunch, Tea and Evening snacks.
The NIOS students also prepared tasty cup cakes. The delicious and tasty food items were
sold out very fast.
The Mehandhi designers designed beautiful designs and exhibited their
creativity and beautified their friends hands. According to the designs the prices were
fixed. Pom Pom pencils, Bookmarks,Keychain, Ice-cream stick photo frames Artistic
earrings were made by the students for Sale.The Embroidery designers stitched fancy
purses, Bags, Sling bags, Hair clips, and Hand kerchifs which were painted and
Embroidered for sale.
The Life skill Mela was a grand success much appreciated and supported by the
Principal, Management, Teachers and students of Std 1 to 9.
Life Skill Training
Life skills have been defined as “the abilities for adaptive and positive
behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of
everyday life” (WHO). Montfort School gives Life Skill training to students of classes
6, 7, 8 & 9. The teachers are equipped to acknowledge and develop the basic life skills
among the students. The objective of the life skill session is to empower children with
knowledge and skills required to build their self esteem, assertiveness and ability.

Tailoring & Embroidery
Mehendi designing
Basic Electricals & Electronics
Gardening
This Life Skills training is already showing its impact by turning classrooms into
child friendly spaces, where there are no barriers between the teachers and students.
